Your Pet Has an Energy Body Too
On animal chakras, the healing power of the bond you share, and how to send a little love their way
If you have ever sat quietly with your pet, really sat with them, not scrolling or half-watching something, but genuinely present, you will know the particular quality of that exchange.
Something passes between you. Something that does not require words or explanation or any effort at all. A warmth. A settling. A mutual recognition that, in this moment, everything is exactly as it should be.
What you are feeling in those moments is not just affection, though it is certainly that. You are feeling an energetic exchange, a real, tangible flow of energy between two living beings who are, in the most fundamental sense, made of the same stuff. Light. Vibration. Life force.
And just as you have an energy body, a system of chakras and an aura that reflects everything you have experienced, processed, held and released, so does your pet.
Today I want to take you inside that system. Because understanding it, even a little, changes the way you experience those quiet moments together. And it opens up the possibility of offering something back to the creature who has given you so much.
Why Animals and Energy
Before we go into the specifics of animal chakras, I want to say something that I think matters enormously.
Our animals give us unconditional love in a form that most humans, if we are honest, find very difficult to offer consistently. They do not withhold affection because they are tired or distracted or carrying something from yesterday. They do not love us less when we are not at our best. They are present, completely, simply, entirely present, in a way that most of us spend years of spiritual practice trying to achieve.
That quality of presence, that depth of unconditional love, is energetically significant. It has a frequency. And like anything that carries a frequency, it can be both offered and received, both given and depleted.
Your pet's energy body is real. Their aura needs tending. And the love they carry for you, the full, unguarded, utterly genuine love, is worth honouring with a little of the same attention they so freely give.
The Animal Chakra System, What Makes It Unique
Animals share several of the same major chakras that humans have, the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. You will recognise these. But the animal energy system has some extraordinary additions and variations that make it beautifully distinct.
Their chakras, as a general principle, tend to appear brighter and larger than ours. This makes intuitive sense, animals have not learned to suppress their instincts, override their senses, or intellectualise their way away from what they are feeling. Their energy system is, in many ways, more immediate and more alive than ours. More direct. Less filtered.
They also have twenty-one minor chakras that function essentially as sensory centres, found on the nose, ears and tail, reflecting the extraordinary refinement of their instinctual awareness. And they have specific additional chakras that humans do not have in the same form.
Let me take you through the whole system, because understanding it will change how you see your pet.
The Brachial Chakra, The Key to Everything
This is where all animal healing work begins, and it is unique to animals.
The brachial chakra, sometimes called the key chakra, sits on each side of the body around the shoulder area, and it is the central point of the energetic connection between animals and humans. Think of it as the bridge between your energy field and theirs.
When your pet has a strong, loving bond with you, this chakra is vibrant and active. You can sometimes feel it when you stroke your dog's shoulders or rest your hand on your cat's back, there is a particular warmth and receptivity there, a sense of them leaning into the contact rather than merely tolerating it.
When this chakra is out of balance, when an animal avoids touch, resists connection, or seems to withdraw from human contact, it is often a reflection of something held here. Past trauma, fear, an association between closeness and hurt. This is the chakra that rescue animals often need the most gentle, patient attention around.
The brachial chakra governs the chest, throat, head and front limbs. And crucially, it is the first chakra to address in any intentional healing work with an animal. It is the invitation. The greeting. The energetic equivalent of letting them come to you rather than reaching for them.
The Bud Chakras, Sensitivity at the Ground Level
These small but significant chakras are found on each paw and on the skin near the base of each ear.
They are extraordinarily sensitive, tuned to subtle energetic vibrations that most humans would never consciously register. Changes in atmospheric pressure, shifts in the earth's energy field, the approach of significant weather events. This is part of why animals often know before we do that something is coming. Their bud chakras are receiving information that our systems simply are not calibrated to detect.
The bud chakras in the feet specifically allow animals to connect with beneficial earth energy, drawing nourishment and grounding directly from the ground beneath them. If you have ever noticed your dog rolling ecstatically in a particular patch of grass, or your cat stretching luxuriously on a specific spot in the garden and then returning to it again and again, there is a good chance they have found an energetic source there. A place where the earth energy is particularly potent or compatible with their system.
They are not being random. They are being exquisitely precise.
The Major Chakras, Familiar, But Different
The major chakras in animals correspond to ours in location and general function, but they have their own specific expression. Here is a brief tour:
The Root Chakra sits at the base of the tail and governs survival instinct. When it is balanced, your pet is grounded, secure and calm. When it is out of balance, you might see extreme fear or agitation, or conversely, greediness and a driven, almost frantic quality around resources. It governs the intestines, hips, hind limbs and the musculoskeletal system.
The Sacral Chakra is in the lower back area and governs emotions and the reproductive system. Boundary issues, animals who either have no sense of their own space or who are extremely territorial, often reflect imbalance here. It governs the kidneys, adrenal glands, reproductive system and lymphatic system.
The Solar Plexus Chakra sits in the middle of the spine and governs personal power. The shy animal who consistently avoids eye contact, or the one who tips into aggression when uncertain, both of these can reflect imbalance in the solar plexus. It governs the digestive system, stomach and liver.
The Heart Chakra is in the chest and heart area, and in animals it governs something fascinating, group hierarchy. How your pet relates to the social structure around them. A balanced heart chakra means a pet who is comfortable in their position, generous in their affection, at ease with other animals. Imbalance might show as sadness, lack of enthusiasm, or jealousy and nervousness around other animals. It governs the heart, lungs, immune system and thymus.
The Throat Chakra sits at the throat and governs communication, which, for animals, covers a remarkably wide range. Excessive vocalisation, or the opposite, unusual silence or withdrawal from communication, can both reflect imbalance here. It governs the throat, mouth, teeth and jaw.
The Third Eye Chakra sits between the eyes and governs self-acceptance and intuitive perception. Vision problems, being easily distracted, or a loss of the instinctive attunement that animals usually carry, these can all reflect imbalance in the third eye. It governs the head generally, the pineal gland and the body's natural rhythms.
The Crown Chakra sits between the ears, above the head, and governs the animal's connection to the divine, to the vast, loving intelligence that underlies all of existence. When this chakra is in balance, your pet has that quality of deep, serene presence that you may have noticed in older or particularly wise animals. Imbalance here can look like depression or withdrawal. It governs the brain, pituitary gland, skin, spine and central nervous system.
The Nose Bridge Centre, The Sensitive Spot
There is one more centre worth noting, found on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes but distinct from the third eye which sits slightly higher.
This centre varies significantly between animals. In highly sensitive creatures, often those with acute instinctual awareness, the ones who seem to know things before they happen, it is notably developed. In others it may be overdeveloped, creating an almost overwhelming sensitivity, or underdeveloped, resulting in a reduced capacity for the subtle perception it governs.
It is worth being aware of this centre when you are working with animals energetically, particularly with those who are unusually reactive or unusually intuitive. Approaching gently, without directing focused energy here unless specifically guided to, is the respectful approach.
The Aura Your Pet Carries
Just as you carry an aura, an energetic field that extends beyond the physical body and reflects your emotional, mental and spiritual state, so does your pet.
And just as yours can become congested or depleted by stress, trauma, difficult environments and accumulated emotional weight, so can theirs.
Pets who live in households with significant emotional tension often absorb that energy. Animals who have been through difficult experiences carry those experiences in their energy field. Rescue animals, in particular, frequently arrive with auras that reflect everything they have been through before they found safety.
This is not something to feel guilty about. It is simply something to be aware of. And it is something that can be actively, lovingly addressed.
What You Can Do Right Now
You do not need to be qualified in Reiki to offer your pet loving energy. You simply need presence, intention and the willingness to be genuinely there with them.
The next time you are sitting with your pet, try this:
Take a slow, grounding breath. Let yourself arrive fully in the moment, not thinking about the day or the evening ahead, but actually, genuinely here.
Place your hands gently on or near your pet, perhaps around the shoulder area where the brachial chakra lives, or simply resting wherever they naturally invite contact.
And simply intend. Not with effort or concentration. But with the quiet, warm, genuine intention of a loving being offering energy to another loving being.
You might think or feel something like: I offer you love. I offer you peace. I am grateful for everything you give me, and I give this back.
That is enough. That is more than enough. Because your pet's energy body is receptive, sensitive and responsive in ways that will immediately register what you are offering.
You may notice them settling more deeply. A long breath or a sigh. A quality of relaxation that is different from their ordinary resting state. This is the energetic exchange landing.
Once You Are Qualified in Reiki
If you feel called to deepen this work, to offer your pet, or other animals, the full benefit of Reiki healing, becoming a qualified Reiki practitioner opens up a profound dimension of what is possible.
Reiki with animals works in exactly the same way as Reiki with humans, the universal life force energy flows where it is needed, addressing imbalance in the chakra system, clearing the aura and supporting the body's own innate capacity to heal. Animals tend to be extraordinarily receptive to Reiki, precisely because they have not learned to intellectualise or resist it. They simply receive.
A qualified Reiki practitioner can work with the full animal chakra system, beginning always with the brachial chakra, that beautiful bridge of connection, and moving through the system with sensitivity and care. The aura can be cleansed. The chakras can be balanced. And the bond between animal and human, already something extraordinary, deepens further still.
A Final Word, For the Ones Who Love Animals
There is something that animals do that most humans find genuinely difficult, and that is to love without keeping score.
They do not love us because of what we have achieved or how we look or whether we were good enough today. They love us because we are here, because we are theirs, because the bond between us is written in something older and deeper than any of the complicated stories we tell about ourselves.
That love is a gift of incalculable value.
The very least we can do is notice their energy body. Offer them a little of what they so freely give us. Tend to their aura with the same care they offer our hearts.
The next time your pet climbs into your lap, rests their head on your knee, or simply sits beside you in that particular way that says I choose to be near you, hold the moment.
Breathe. Intend. Offer love.
And receive, with the gratitude it deserves, what they have been offering you all along.
